How Do I Migrate To Distil: Network Solutions

Migrating Your Website to Distil Using Network Solutions DNS:

Network Solutions provides an easy to use and understand DNS system.  Migrating your Network Solutions domain is a simple process that involves two steps:

  • Change your CNAME record for www.website.com to point to a CNAME provided by Distil
  • Change your A Record entry for website.com to point to an IP provided by Distil 

Editing your www CNAME to point to Distil's Network

  1. Log in to your account at www.networksolutions.com
  2. In the left navigation bar, open nsWebAddress (Domains) menu by clicking the + icon
  3. Click Manage Domain Names
  4. On the Domain Details page for the domain you're using with Distil, 
  5. select the Designated DNS radio button to the right of Change domain to point to
    • (If you've already configured advanced DNS settings, click Edit next to Advanced DNS Settings.) 
  6. Click the Apply Changes button. 
  7. Under the Advanced DNS Manager heading, click Manage Advanced DNS Records
  8. Under the Host Aliases (CNAME Records) heading, click Add/Edit
  9. In the Alias box, type www. 
  10. Select the radio button to the left of the Other Host box. 
  11. In the Other Host box, enter the host you were assigned by Distil during the Add Domain phase in the Distil Portal.  Usually this is something like www.yourwebsite.com.distil.us
  12. Click Continue
  13. Click Save Changes.

Editing your root domain yourwebsite.com A Record to point to Distil's Network

  1. Log in to your account at networksolutions.com
  2. Locate the IP Address (A records) section. 
  3. Click on the Edit A Records button. 
  4. To remove and replace the existing IP address, select the box next to the A record you need to edit. 
  5. Click Continue
  6. On the Confirm DNS Changes page click Save Changes
  7. Enter the root domain IP address you were assigned by Distil during the Add Domain phase in the Distil Portal.  
  8. Set the TTL settings to 1 minute
  9. Click Continue.
